Category 01

About & buying

Release, platforms, languages, editions, and requirements.

01What is the Dressmaker game?

Dressmaker is a cozy single-player crafting and simulation game developed by Cozy Lives and published by Free Lives. The complete game released on Steam on September 21, 2026.

02Where can I buy and play Dressmaker?

The full release is sold through Steam and officially lists Windows and macOS. No console or mobile version is currently listed as released.

03Is Dressmaker a browser game or a mobile game?

No browser version is officially listed. The developers have said that mobile and Switch ports are planned, but a plan is not a released product and no launch date is stated in the current announcement.

04Is the itch.io Dressmaker prototype the same as the Steam game?

No. The itch.io download is an older prototype with a separate version, smaller scope, and different platform listing. Prototype values and walkthroughs should not be assumed to apply to the 2026 full game.

05Which languages does Dressmaker support?

The Steam listing currently shows English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese for interface, full audio, and subtitles. Recheck the store before buying because language support can change.

06What are the minimum system requirements?

Steam lists Windows 10 or later, an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen processor, 8 GB RAM, Intel UHD 630 or better, DirectX 11, and 2 GB storage for Windows. For macOS it lists Apple M1, 8 GB RAM, and 1 GB storage.

Core gameplay

What you do, how dressmaking works, and how creative freedom is handled.

07What is the main gameplay loop?

Read a customer brief, plan the dress in the sketchbook, buy fabric, arrange and cut pattern pieces, assemble them on the mannequin, sew the panels, add decorations, and deliver the result for reputation and coin.

08Do I need real sewing or dressmaking experience?

No. The official press kit says the game is inspired by real-world dressmaking but does not require prior knowledge. Its systems teach the simplified in-game workflow.

09Do fabric grain and bias change the finished dress?

Yes. The official description says pattern alignment to the grain or bias, along with how pieces are arranged and cut, appears on the final dress. Treat placement as part of the design, not only a cutting minigame.

10Can I make dresses without a customer commission?

Yes. The official store describes a creative sandbox and lets you display your own designs in the shop window to sell off the rack, separately from bespoke customer work.

11What decorations can I add to a dress?

The official listing names buttons, bows, appliqué, lace trims, and other accessories. Placement is creative, but a commission can still require an exact accessory category or amount.

Category 03

Commissions & items

Customer progression, requirements, missing pieces, and achievements.

12Why is the next customer not appearing?

Start by ringing the shop bell. Build 403 changed progression so the bell must be used to summon the next customer. Also turn through every journal page and check for unfinished work before treating the save as blocked.

13Why can I not submit or finish a commission?

Check every brief line separately, then compare the sketchbook, inventory, and mannequin for one cut but unplaced panel. Build 410 added a hover hint that shows where an inventory panel belongs.

14Why does a Lace Trim requirement not count?

Use the exact Lace Trim category rather than relying on an item name containing the word lace. Build 403 fixed incorrect tags on some lace-trim items, so older advice may describe launch-day behavior.

15What should I do if a cut pattern piece is missing?

Inspect every fabric section used for the dress, compare sketchbook components with the mannequin and inventory, then save to the title screen and reload once. The reload is a community-reported workaround, not a guaranteed mechanic.

16Can I redo or replay a commission?

Restarting an active dress and replaying a completed story commission are different. A universal replay option for completed story work has not been verified, so recheck the dress before delivery and treat community restart advice cautiously.

17How many achievements does Dressmaker have?

The Steam release currently lists 32 achievements. Steam exposes conditions for some and only names for others, so this guide does not invent hidden conditions.

Category 04

Saves & troubleshooting

Steam Cloud, input support, performance checks, and useful bug reports.

18Does Dressmaker support controllers or Steam Deck?

The developers say the game runs fast on Steam Deck, but proper controller support still needs work. Expect pointer-oriented interactions and check the current Steam compatibility label before buying for handheld-only play.

19Does Dressmaker support Steam Cloud?

Yes. Steam Cloud is listed as an official feature for the full release. Cloud synchronization does not itself provide manual save slots or an undo history inside the game.

20Can I create manual save points?

The Steam page confirms Cloud support but does not promise manual save slots. Current player reports describe an autosave-first system; this guide therefore does not publish an unverified checkpoint or rollback method.

21Why is my game running poorly?

First compare the machine with the official minimum requirements, close heavy background applications, update the graphics driver, and lower available visual settings one at a time. Record the operating system, hardware, resolution, and current game build if the problem persists.

22What should a useful bug report include?

Include the current build, operating system, client or commission, exact item or pattern name, the shortest repeatable steps, expected result, actual result, and a screenshot. Mention whether saving and reloading changed the behavior.

This guide & its data

Sources, screenshots, build labels, privacy, and database limits.

23Is this an official Dressmaker website?

No. Dressmaker Game Guide is an independent player resource. Dressmaker, its screenshots, and its product names belong to Cozy Lives, Free Lives, and their respective rights holders.

24Are the screenshots on this site real game screenshots?

Yes. The gallery uses eight official 1920 by 1080 screenshots published for Dressmaker on Steam. They are compressed into local WebP files for performance and are never presented as independent artwork.

25Does this guide use an external API or require an account?

No account or application API is required. The site is exported as static files, and search, the screenshot viewer, and achievement tracking run locally in the browser. The only third-party runtime connection is Google Analytics for aggregate page measurement; achievement progress remains in local browser storage.

26Why does each guide show a checked date and game build?

Patches can change progression triggers, item tags, controls, and interface hints. A checked date and referenced build make it clear when an answer was last compared with current official information.

27Why are there not hundreds of exact item records yet?

The official totals describe more than 150 dress pieces, 450 fabrics, and 350 accessories, but a marketing total is not a verified database. Exact records are published only after names, values, unlocks, and the relevant build are checked directly.
